Data Labeling Factories Are The Answer To China’s Growing AI Ambitions

s the new oil, it has been said for years now. If data is the new oil, then China is already the largest producer with its factories packed with labourers working hard to annotate images and data for machine learning. Machine Learning needs loads of data to perform well and the need for high quality hand annotated data has skyrocketed in the last decade. “I used to think the machines are geniuses. Now I know we’re the reason for their genius.” Hou, a young blue-collared labeler in one of these factories, told an international daily. Microsoft and Adaptive Biotechnologies go live with AI engine for universal diagnostic blood test

It’s been one day short of a year since Microsoft partnered with Adaptive Biotechnologies to create a blood test with the promise of diagnosing dozens of diseases at once. The idea is to take hold of the body’s own diagnostic powers by mapping the immune system’s response to toxins and foreign substances. To do that, the team needs lots of data and the ability to sort through it. That’s where artificial intelligence comes in. The companies announced Thursday that the AI system they built is up and running and will initially focus on diagnosing type 1 diabetes, celiac disease, ovarian cancer, pancreatic cancer and Lyme disease. To generate the data, Adaptive and Microsoft placed an open call for collaborators to work toward their goal of sequencing immune data from 25,000 people with the five diseases. 2019-01-03 20:41:07-08:00 Read the full story. 1.2415349887133182 CloudQuant Thoughts… AI is going to deliver on some amazing medical breakthroughs over the next few years.

How to Trade Intel Stock and Its Potential 33% Upside

Looking around the stock market on Friday, it’s hard to find a stock in the red. U.S. equities are getting quite the lift following a vastly stronger-than-expected jobs report and more dovish Federal Reserve comments from Fed Chair Jerome Powell. This bit of good news is helping give Intel (INTC) stock a lift, up about 5% to $46.75. The biggest tech trends of 2019, according to top experts

For the tech industry, 2019 may be more about laying groundwork than historic breakthroughs. But it should be a busy and exciting year, as key new technologies begin finding their way into real, useful applications. The smartphone will still be our central tech device by the end of next year, but as augmented reality and wearables progress, we’ll sense more and more that a new paradigm in personal computing is around the corner. That will be helped along by enabling technologies such as 5G networks, which will be stretching far and wide by the end of 2020. And, artificial intelligence will become infused in all kinds of products, allowing gadgets and services to subtly begin to anticipate our wants. 2019-01-03 06:00:06 Read the full story. 0.6244677831393698 CloudQuant Thoughts… Very interesting to see what the leaders of tech firms think will be the big trends of 2019. Complicated patterns aren’t always that complicated. Usually it’s the “simple” ones that bite you.

Back to the code review… What I was hoping to see in this review was explicitly defined commands and events. Personally, I like a file for every event handler or command handler. When you can navigate the codebase and find an entry point to a feature by searching for files named by what happened or what should, you can navigate quite effectively, as the conce… 2019-01-07 06:15:00.132000+00:00 Read the full story. 0.5622026812743262

Here’s what 2009-era Microsoft thought life would be like in 2019

I’m not sure what I was hoping for. Maybe something akin to Intel’s 1997 ad featuring a bunch of bunny suit guys dancing to Boom Boom Pow in the world’s lamest rave. Or a vintage, circa-2000 Steve Ballmer flip-out. But the video that Microsoft produced in 2009, imagining what technology would look like in 2019, isn’t the massively embarrassing tech giant equivalent to a senior photo that I expected.
