Build pipelines with Pandas using “pdpipe”

Pandas is an amazing library in the Python ecosystem for data analytics and machine learning. They form the perfect bridge between the data world, where Excel/CSV files and SQL tables live, and the modeling world where Scikit-learn or TensorFlow perform their magic.

A data science flow is most often a sequence of steps — datasets must be cleaned, scaled, and validated before they can be ready to be used by that powerful machine learning algorithm.

These tasks can, of course, be done with many single-step functions/methods that are offered by packages like Pandas but a more elegant way is to use a pipeline. In almost all cases, a pipeline reduces the chance of error and saves time by automating repetitive tasks.

Beginner’s Guide To Explainable AI: Hands-On Introduction To What-If Tool

Explainable AI or shortly XAI is a domain that deals with maintaining transparency to the decision making capability of complex machine learning models and algorithms.

A simple way to understand this concept is to compare the decision-making process of humans with that of the machines. How do we humans come to a decision? We often make decisions whether they are small insignificant decisions like what outfit to wear for an event, to highly complex decisions that involve risks such as investments or loan approvals.

However, at the end of the day, we can reason with ourselves and others for the choice of decision we made by explaining how we came to that decision. However, it is not that simple in the case of AI. When we consider machine learning, the explaining part is totally nonexistent or was at least till the concept of Explainable AI popped up.

AI Bias a Real Concern in Business, Survey Says

The potential benefits of AI for businesses are huge. But those benefits could be eroded by hidden biases that damage brand reputation and customer trust, according to a survey of US and UK businesses commissioned by DataRobot. According to DataRobot‘s “The State of AI Bias in 2019,” which was released last week, 42% of organizations surveyed reported being “very to extremely” concerned about AI bias occurring in their organizations.

This number jibes with another finding from the DataRobot survey: that 38% of the organizations surveyed reported they use “black box” machine learning systems that offer no insight into how it makes decisions. The juxtaposition of AI bias concerns and black box systems is enough to warrant serious questions about the direction compaines should take with their machine learning, according to John Giannandrea, Apple’s senior vice president of machine learning and AI strategy.

The 20 top tech skills that employers want and that can help you find a job, according to recruiting site Indeed

Andrew Flowers, an economist at Indeed, says that in today’s job market, there are two major trends that drive the top skills in tech. The first is the rise of data science, machine learning, and artificial intelligence. The second is the rise of cloud computing. Some languages, like Java and C++, still remain some of the most important skills in tech, but they have been around for decades.

On the other hand, the programming language Python is a relative newcomer and today is one of the top skills on the list. “Python has had explosive growth,” Flowers told Business Insider. “If I’m around the dinner table and a nephew asks what should I learn? Having done this report, I would say, learn Python.” The reason why Python has exploded is because of the rise of data science and machine learning, Flowers said. “Some tools are good and will always be around,” Flowers said. “Python is just so notable because it’s easy to learn. It’s used in data science and it’s also used in web development. Its explosive growth is the #1 takeaway from this research.”

Besides that, the report also shows growth in cloud technical skills for Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure. “AWS is still the dominant cloud computing tool but Azure is growing really fast, too,” Flowers said.

Here are the top 20 tech skills, according to Indeed:

What are the ethical implications of artificial intelligence? We know that we are facing an automated future. We know that AI is proving ever-more illimitable in its capabilities and applications. What we don’t know, however, is whether the technology will ultimately prove friend or foe.
AI holds the potential for great good. It could drive us to a post-work utopia in which our time is liberated from labour. Or, it could lead us down a darker path, one with increased poverty and social isolation. So, what moral framework should guide us as we implement AI? Here are five ethical questions surrounding our AI-infused future.

  1. How could AI affect our professional relationships and careers?
  2. What happens if AI does take over our jobs?
  3. How do we distribute wealth if we aren’t working?

The importance of valuing your data – Cuemacro

The key point when trying to understand the value of data (and alternative data) is that its value can differ between who is using it. Let’s take for example, web scraped data. If we have a dataset made up a large number of web scraped pages, it is difficult to say that this has no “value”. However, the value we can extract from it, is likely to differ significantly and depends on our business model. If we take a firm like Google, they’ve obviously been able to utilise web content to create searches, and then monetise it through adverts. A financial data firm might be able to leverage web content to create alternative datasets for funds. A hedge fund can that monetise that through trading. We can see that the data source (web content) was the same in all cases, but the way it it monetised (and the scale at which it can also be monetised) differs substantially and depends on the business model of a firm.

Cryptocurrency Price Prediction Using Deep Learning

The popularity of cryptocurrencies skyrocketed in 2017 due to several consecutive months of exponential growth of their market capitalization. The prices peaked at more than $800 billion in January 2018.
Although machine learning has been successful in predicting stock market prices through a host of different time series models, its application in predicting cryptocurrency prices has been quite restrictive. The reason behind this is obvious as prices of cryptocurrencies depend on a lot of factors like technological progress, internal competition, pressure on the markets to deliver, economic problems, security issues, political factor etc. Their high volatility leads to the great potential of high profit if intelligent inventing strategies are taken. Unfortunately, due to their lack of indexes, cryptocurrencies are relatively unpredictable compared to traditional financial predictions like stock market prediction.

In this blog, I will be going through a four step process to predict cryptocurrency prices:

  • Getting real-time crptocurrency data.
  • Prepare data for training and testing.
  • Predict the price of crptocurrency using LSTM neural network.
  • Visualize the prediction results.

In April 2019, Benjamin Burkholder (who is awesome, by the way) published a Medium article showing off a script he wrote that uses SERP result features to infer a user’s search intent. The script uses the API for its data and labels search queries in the following way:

  • Informational — The person is looking for more information on a topic. This is indicated by whether an answer box or PAA (people also ask) boxes are present.
  • Navigational — The person is searching for a specific website. This is indicated by whether a knowledge graph is present or if site links are present.
  • Transactional — The person is aiming to purchase something. This is indicated by whether shopping ads are present.
  • Commercial Investigation — The person is aiming to make a purchase soon but is still researching. This is indicated by whether paid ads are present, an answer box is present, PAAs are present, or if there are ads present at the bottom of the SERP.

This is one of the coolest ways to estimate search intent, because it uses Google’s understanding of search intent (as expressed by the SERP features shown for that search).

The first effort to regulate AI was a spectacular failure

When I stepped into the City Hall boardroom, it was filled with the nervous energy of the first day of school or a new job. Excitingly, this was the first task force in the country to comprehensively analyze the impact of artificial intelligence on government. Looking at everything from predictive policing, to school assignmen…
